- Zaštitu romskih porodica i pojačano prisustvo policije u osetljivim sredinama (npr. Brezje kod Novog Mesta).
- Istragu i hapšenje provokatora koji šire strah i nasilje, uključujući oružane incidente.
- Transparentnu i nepristrasnu istragu celog događaja, bez etničke stigmatizacije.
- Odgovorno informisanje javnosti i zajedničku konferenciju za medije uz učešće romskih predstavnika i porodice žrtve.
- Pokretanje nacionalnog programa “Tolerancija za sve” finansiranog iz EU fondova, radi borbe protiv rasizma i društvenih predrasuda.
Međunarodne institucije moraju pratiti situaciju i zaštititi romske zajednice u Sloveniji i regionu,” poručuje se u zaključku.

Roma from the Region Appeal to the Slovenian Government: Stop the Wave of Hatred and Violence
Following the tragic death of Aleš Šutar in Novo Mesto and the subsequent rise of hostility towards the Roma community in Slovenia, the Permanent Conference of Roma Associations – League of Roma and YUROM Center have issued an appeal to the Slovenian government and international institutions.
The statement expresses condolences to the victim’s family and strongly condemns all forms of violence, while warning against the alarming spread of ethnic hatred, threats, and calls for revenge against Roma citizens.
“Violence is unacceptable regardless of the ethnicity of the victim or the perpetrator. We condemn the crime, but we are deeply concerned about the wave of hatred and collective stigmatization of Roma that followed. This is not justice – it is a dangerous step toward social division,” the appeal states.
The Roma organizations are calling on the Slovenian authorities and the international community to take urgent action to ensure protection, justice, and social stability.
They request the following measures:
- Protection of Roma families and increased police presence in vulnerable areas (e.g., Brezje near Novo Mesto).
- Investigation and arrest of provocateurs spreading fear and using firearms to intimidate Roma.
- A transparent and impartial investigation of the entire case, without ethnic bias.
- Responsible public communication through a joint press conference involving government officials, Roma representatives, and the victim’s family.
- Launching the national program “Tolerance for All” with EU funding, to support education, inclusion, and anti-discrimination campaigns.
The appeal has been sent to the President and Government of the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Interior, the European Parliament, the European Commission, the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, the Council of Europe, the OSCE, Amnesty International, and the UN Commissioner for Human Rights.
“Slovenia needs systemic change, not anti-Roma populism. International institutions must monitor the situation and ensure the safety of Roma communities in Slovenia and across the region,” concludes the statement.
